26th September 2009

The U15’s pre season friendly against an U16 Barnsley team saw players from both teams getting a lot of court time. This should help both of them in their forthcoming campaigns. The Sharks came away victors with a solid performance and a 66-45 winning scoreline.

24th September 2009

It is the turn of the U15's pre season friendly this weekend with a trip to Barnsley. We'll keep you updated.

The fist squad picture of the new season has been uploaded for the U16s (see both fixtures and info buttons on the right). Also as the U18s start their season before the others we welcome the return of the next fixtures information board at the bottom of our home page.

The Senior Sharks get their season off to a start this weekend too, so the new season is nearly upon us.

20th September 2009

A very busy weekend for some of the junior Sharks. The highlight of Saturday’s U14 tournament saw the team with an 11 point deficit at half time against Cheshire Jets. A spirited, gritty performance saw them end up victors 84 vs 77. It was the sort of match you’d expect at the end of the season and with the honours one a piece in the pre season matches between these two teams, maybe there will be a decider later on? The day after saw some of the squad go to Leicester where they represented the Yorkshire team in a Lilleshall warm up. In the six region tournament they achieved a credible fourth place and the margins of the games showed they are in touch with most of the other regions.

Meanwhile the new look U18 squad had a won one, lost one result over the Pennines with the loss coming against Manchester. More friendlies coming up next weekend.

15th September 2009

More pre-season friendly information; It is the turn of the U18s to visit the Amaechi Basketball Centre this Saturday as they play in a three team round robin tournament against Manchester Magic and Stockport . The first game is at 1.00pm.

The arrangements for the U14s tournament have now been finalised and they also play in a three team round robin against Southend and Cheshire. They play Southend at 12.30, the visitors play each other at 2.30 and the final game against Cheshire is at 4.30. All support welcome.

Two comments about these are that Sheffield are taking on some of the best teams in a tough preparation for the new season that will stand them in good stead and secondly we hope robin is not too dizzy at the end of the day!

14th September 2009

Pre season games very much at the forefront at the moment. The senior Sharks had a match last night and reports suggest that they’re looking good. Remember that clicking on their logo will take you to their latest press release.

Meanwhile the U14s are getting ready for another pre season tournament on Saturday and some of the squad are also playing a tournament with Yorkshire on Sunday.

The Saturday tournament is at All Saints and we'll be giving out more details about times, opponents etc. later in the week, so please return.

5th September 2009

An interesting tournament for the U14s today with mixed opinions. The positives seem to be that training, fitness and team work are obtained through dedicated training. To come from a 7 week layoff and play against the top North West teams shows that the start up of training next week will soon put everything back to where they left off next season.

A report can be found in The U14 information section and photos can be found in our Flickr section.

4th September 2009

The fixtures for next season are now on the site.

The U14s are taking part in a tournament tomorrow at the Amaechi Centre in Manchester. The first match tips off at 12.00 and we'll try and get a report from this tournament. If anyone has not been included in the emails about directions and arrangements please contact the site using the "Contact us". Let's see if the U14s can carry on from the tremendous season they had as U13s last year.

2nd September 2009

The New Year starts here! Not only is the new school/college year about to start but the new basketball season is also approaching. The fixtures are already on the EB website and we will shortly be transferring them across.

As part of the build up to the new season we will be looking at each age group and assessing the season ahead as the training sessions start up again. We will be reporting on some friendlies that we are taking place over the next few weeks.

We also have a few new “innovations” up our sleeves to enhance supporters’ and players’ match day experiences. We’ll let you know how they work out.

Be sure to visit the site and get ready for what will surely be another great season for one of the great junior basketball teams in the country.

14th August 2009

Apologies, but the next scheduled website update will be in the first week of September. This means there will be no reports on the final outcome of the U16s in Europe, or the four on four at EIS.

In anticipation, let’s hope the U16s get to division A and that the Sharks have a presence in the four on fours (if there are any entries from the Club).

Hope everyone’s having a good summer break?

12th August 2009

The England U16s march on. Next match is at 8.45pm tonight. Live stats are being broadcast.

10th August 2009

The U14/U15s and associated friends and relatives once again took up the hospitality of Rother Valley Country Park on Saturday for a family fun day. This consisted of Zorbing, rounders, a barbeque, archery as well as the traditional raft building competition where some of the coaches experienced a sinking feeling. You can see some of the photos and videos on the Sharks Flickr site, using the link on the left (we may be putting more up later!). We hope you've all dried off and it was a great day for a great day!

Also more good reasons to follow basketball opposed to cricket as the U16s are playing well in Europe with Devon leading the assists table at the moment.

6th August 2009

The Shark's internationals are making headlines in the local press at the moment. The Sheffield Telegraph has published an article today.

3rd August 2009

National team summer!

The England U18s boys are coming home today, having finished a more than respectable 4th, losing in the semi-final to eventual champions Sweden. The U18s suffered one misfortune after another and it’s a real achievement that they’ve done so well in spite of those set-backs. Our own Will Hall was one of the unfortunate ones, falling ill on the very first day of the tournament. Will was in hospital twice with what looked like a case of severe food poisoning and he had to be flown home early. Second Sheffield Junior Shark and making his debut on the international scene, Dan James, hurt his knee in his first 30 seconds of action and was only to play briefly in the remaining games. We hope the boys make a full recovery. England’s big man, Ryan Richards, was also flown home after hurting his shoulder, and on the final day Manchester’s Josh Houghton was ill. In spite of all that, the England U18 performed well, equalling their own best-ever finish as 4th, when most of them were U16 two years ago.

Tomorrow, the England U16 boys are flying out to Porto for their European Championships. Junior Sharks John Stewart and Devon van Oostrum hope to do well on England coach Simon Fisher’s team. Coach Fisher led the 1991 boys to a fourth place finish two years ago (the boys who were U18s this year) and we hope they can challenge for a place in the top again. The tournament starts Thursday August 6 with a crucial game against a tough Denmark team. Tip off at 2pm (Portuguese time is the same as UK time).

29th July 2009

Internationals Update

GB U20 finished 13th in the end. Tellingly, the team they lost to most disappointingly, Bulgaria, finished 9th.

An action picture of Nigel Van Oostrum can be found here, Nigel finished 3rd in assists in the overall competition.

In Sarajevo, the Junior Sharks boys are having a tough time. Will Hall has been ill for most of the tournament (playing in only two of the matches) and is flying home today. Dan James' run in with an advertising board after 30seconds has seen him nursing a knee injury. The U18s are playing in the top 8 of the tournament tonight against the Netherlands.

U16s (John and Devon) are in Belgium for their final preparations.

25th July 2009

Sheffield's duo shine in Holland as the U16s win 3 from 3 click here for a report.

The U14s were in action today and also managed 3 wins out of 3. A report can be found in the U14 information section.

22nd July 2009

Just received the news that Dan James and Will Hall are now in Sarajevo with the England U18s. Their first game is tomorrow against Belgium.

21st July 2009

Last year's U16 coach has an obvious interest in the GB U20 tournament in Skopje. You can catch up on his reports on this website. Choose "GB Men and Juniors" on the right for all of his reports.

20th July 2009

We’re not sure if the U13s have a post season, or the U14s a pre season tournament this weekend. After deliberation it is decided that it is an U14 pre season triangular tournament against Coventry and Birmingham. Further details of location and times can therefore be found under the U14s information button on the right. For those that are not holidaying or otherwise busy have a good day.
