31st January 2010

The U16s win today, although they had a tense final few minutes as Birmingham came to within 2 points. However they hung on for the victory. Reports from yesterday's U14s and U18s matches now posted as well as next weekend's U18 previews.

30th January 2010

Some days are odd, perhaps today was one of those days? The oddities from the U14 camp seemed to happen before the game as the match itself saw them keep their 100% record. We’re sure the other stories will appear in the report.

The U15s had their oddities at the end of the game which sees the game in Limbo at 59 all. When this matter is cleared up we will report the outcome.

Finally the U18s just seemed to have a strange day as the supporters have their heads in hands saying “Not another Donny” as they lose away at Cheshire. Again we’re sure that everything will eventually become clear.

Maybe this is all to do with yesterday’s full moon?

28th January 2010

Just a quick note to all supporters at Springs this weekend. Brownell's refreshments will be available on Saturday, thanks.

WEEKEND PREVIEW

The matches this coming weekend should see our teams bag some points and victories. The U14s and U15s play at home against North East opposition. The last time the U14s played at Gateshead they hit form and piled on the points against the side that are looking likely to be the second strongest in this league. The scoreline may not be as big this time, but our soothsayer sees a victory.

The U15s must be relishing a full squad and home tie against Newcastle after a narrow victory away earlier in the season. We think the opposition may well encounter a strong team on Saturday and that maybe the score will reflect this.

The U16s are hoping to build on their improved performance against Manchester last week when they take on Birmingham this Sunday. However, expect the mid table opponents to offer some tough resistance.

Last but not least the U18s visit a team they know well, Cheshire (see preview). If the sharks perform like the first quarter against Stockport last Sunday then all will be well.

As normal, all the best to players and supporters.

24th January 2010

The U18’s onslaught in the first quarter is enough to stave off Q3 comeback aspirations from Stockport as Sharks come away victors (quarter scores on the Twitter page). The U16s meanwhile lose by 11 to Manchester in what the score suggests was a hard fought match. U16 match report posted as well as U18s preview.

Report from yesterday's match at the hospitable Sefton now posted as well as the U13s first match against Leicester Dynamite.

23rd January 2010

First result of the day implies the U18s ease to a victory away at Sefton. The final results are as close as we expected for the U13s as one went the Sharks way and unfortunately the other one didn't.

Don't forget the only home match of the week tomorrow!

22nd January 2010

To say the U18s are looking forward to their Sureshot semi final may be an understatement as they’ve already provided an early preview for the 7th February fixture. Please see the U16s/U18s Cup section on the right.

20th January 2010

U18s weekend previews and Sunday's cup match report now posted. Please note that the U18 tip off at Sefton has now been put back to 2.00pm

19th January 2010

A few tough games this coming weekend. Firstly the U13s really need to be “on the ball” to keep their 100% record. Notts Nova took them to overtime last match and those there were impressed with their coach and the discipline and humour he brought with them. Their last fixture against Leicester Dynamite was close too, so keep focussed and all the best.

The U16s face the Manchester Magic, enough said. Again we’re sure that a top performance is due from the Sharks in a match that may be a dress rehearsal for the Sureshot Final.

The U18s meanwhile have the challenge of another two games in two days with the second against Stockport who pipped them in overtime earlier in the season.

The recent press release from the senior Sharks can be found by clicking on their logo.

18th January 2010

CUP DRAW: The cup semi final draws have now been made. Good news for the U16s as they are kept apart from Manchester and get a home tie against Southern premier opposition, Milton Keynes, who currently lie in second place. Good news too for the U18s as they are kept apart from Southern premier opposition and have Leicester Warriors albeit away. The luck of the draw seems to have favoured the Sharks.

The U14s and U15s postponed fixtures have now been rearranged for the 30th January and the changes have been made to the fixture lists.

All league reports from the weekend have now been posted as well as the U16 cup game.

17th January 2010

It’s a win, win, win cup Sunday as both the U16s and U18s move through to the semi finals of the Sureshot cup. Congratulations to all and everyone’s waiting for the semi final draw as there are certain teams we wish to avoid!

The U18s played Cheshire Jets whilst the senior Sharks were also playing them in Birmingham in the BBL Cup. The two results proved to be the same as Sheffield are now the BBL cup holders, so congratulations to them too.

Finally the All Saints' floor refurbishment has been completed so everthing is back to normal. We'll also confirm the rearranged U14 & U15 matches tomorrow.

16th January 2010

All results today went to plan as the U16s and U18s seem well placed to bulld on their victories for tomorrow's cup games.

The U14s also eased to a victory in a match filled with talking points.

13th January 2010

The U16 and U18 fixtures from last weekend have been rearranged. The fixtures section now reflects this.

Can we also let you know there's no refreshment stall at Springs on Saturday so please either come with change for the machine, flasks and/or other snacks. You appreciate things more when they’re not there, so a quick thanks to the Brownells for their work over the season and all the best to Grace on Saturday!

12th January 2010

An early weekend preview this week and the mood of the club suggests that the weekend’s task ahead will be tough but achievable. Both the U16s and U18s have had an enforced winter break and are faced with two matches in two days, with the cup fixtures on Sunday. The form book suggests that all games are winnable but the form book has a habit of not playing ball. All the best to these two teams this weekend and all support welcome.

The other fixture meanwhile sees the U14s take the long road to Newcastle on Saturday, we hope the weather holds out and again that the form book is on your side!

The final report from the U13s fixture is now posted.

Finally, in this cup weekend, our best goes out to the senior Sharks in the BBL final in Birmingham against Cheshire Jets.

10th January 2010

The weekend weather whiteout was avoided with The U13s playing basketball at Derby and keeping their 100% record. The second match against Northants Ballers seems to be an interesting match. We hope the travelling was OK for everyone. The first match report now posted.

The logistical problem of rearranging fixtures now begins for the other teams. It seems to affect the U16s and U18s more as they already have a crowded schedule especially with their involvement in the Sureshot Cup next weekend. U18 previews now posted.

6th January 2010

We’ve just done a quick calculation and estimate that if one person did the return journey for each away team, for each fixture this weekend they would need to travel 926 miles. Considering the weather situation it shows why the certainty of the games being played is a bit unsure.

We are therefore restraining from whipping up a frenzy of anticipation with our normal previews and ask that everyone checks their emails, the website and weather to see what happens on Saturday & Sunday. Needless to say all the best to any teams that do play.

Meanwhile in our Alumni section we’ve been given details of three 1986 junior Sharks that are active in the EBL division 1 at the moment, it’s good to know that basketball stays with the players when they move on.

4th January 2010

A Happy New Year to all. There are a few outstanding items from last year to get through before we preview the first matches of 2010 this weekend. Please return mid week for those.

We congratulated Tommy Price for his inclusion in the U15 Wales squad last year. We should have also mentioned that his brother, Dave Price who plays for the U18s was selected for the Welsh U18 squad as well. Apologies for the omission, but again well done from all at the club.

Still on the them of last year you may have read our review of the Christmas “entertainment”, we’ve been supplied with this quote overheard from one of the U15s parents: “"It's lucky they can play basketball! as there's no future for them as a group in the world of entertainment.”

Finally if you have any news or items of interest from the Sharks please feel free to send them. There’s a new button on the “Contact us/info” section called “Submit News” so keep us up-to-date.
