Junior Teams - Part of the City of Sheffield Basketball Club (COSBC)
30th November 2009
The three minute whistle has just gone for the resumption of the season this coming weekend, so here’s the update a day early!
The only team resting this weekend are the U14s, who need it after another visit to Manchester last weekend to play in a tournament. Those following the team seem to think these cross Pennine journeys are jinxed, but on a positive note it will make them stronger.
Let’s hope the U18s have a better experience in Manchester this Saturday, as well as the U16s playing at home against another North West antagonist; Cheshire Jets. Meanwhile the U15s take on local rivals Rotherham which can always be a highly competitive match. Finally the U13s are looking to maintain their 100% start to the season with their final home fixture of the season.
There are also a couple of new links on the left of our home page. The first will give access to the latest EB on-line magazine “Zone Press”. Please look at page 7 so the optimists can start filling in their 2010 diaries. The other link will give you the latest Basketball rules for budding or existing coaches, players, officials or anyone else with an interest in the game.
News of a record breaking performance from a senior Shark at the weekend can be found by clicking their logo at the top of the page.
24th November 2009
The U18 weekend report and next match preview are now posted and in fact there are now reports for all Sharks games this season so far.
It could be said that the season has now finished the first quarter as there is a weekend break from national fixtures. Looking at the tables and using % wins it shows that all Sharks teams are in the top 3 (see tables).
For players either taking a break from basketball this weekend or those taking part in tournaments (U14s) hope all goes well and we’ll see you all back in December when the countdown to the New Year begins
22nd November 2009
Reports from yesterday's U14, U15 and U16 matches now on the site. Please note that the U18 fixture against Manchester has moved from the end of February to December 20th. Information about a Christmas party also on the left as well as photos from the 2 home games on Flickr.
21st November 2009
A four out of four winning Saturday that also sees the first 100 plus score recorded. However there are some opinions that suggest that there still seems some work to be done.to ensure consistent performances by some teams. We await the reports!
20th November 2009
Today’s English lesson is to find the correct collective noun for match reports. In the absence of the answer we have decided that a “commentary of reports” have been posted for the U16s.
Please also keep an eye on the Christmas information section to the left. We will post news relating to events etc. in the run up to the Christmas break.
Don’t forget the Senior Sharks quarter final cup match at EIS (7.30 tip) tonight.
Finally, (excuse the jargon) we’ve picked up on a Mike Shaft tweet that we’ve re-tweeted on our twitter page regarding an award to one of Sheffield’s basketball coaches – well done.
18th November 2009
The busiest Saturday since the season started for the club this coming weekend, all the best to everyone. We have also just realised that the U18s had another game last weekend, that report is now posted.
16th November 2009
For those wanting to re-live, or to find out more about the outstanding cup match yesterday, the report is now available in the cup section.
15th November 2009
Fantasic victory today for the U18s as they beat Manchester in the cup. Can they now go one step further this year, than last? We sure hope so - well done.
U14 report now posted as well as a preview for the next U18 match. Please note that the U18 fixture has moved from Sunday to Saturday.
14th November 2009
As the storms lash the South of England, it’s the North East basketball teams that get blown away by the Junior Sheffield Sharks today. Let’s hope the forecast is the same for the North West tomorrow!
9th November 2009
Reports from the U13s, U14s and U18s have now been posted and if you’ve not yet seen them, the previews for the U18s matches this weekend are available. There are some new U14 photos in the Flickr section too. Any other photographers get in touch with the site if you want to add match photos to Flickr.
8th November 2009
The U14s hit their stride as they ease past Doncaster with a polished performance. Meanwhile the U16s lose their focus a bit, but finish strong enough to see off Northants.
7th November 2009
The U13s came away unscathed today, well done for two good wins. Elsewhere: even if you are just following the U18s progress this season using our new twitter service you must feel for them, now losing two games in over time by very close margins. All we can say is that hopefully, by the end of the season, things will equal out!
5th November 2009
It should be a more straightforward weekend coming up, but who knows there may be some fireworks? The U13s are back in action against Leicester. Last time they were in a league with a Leicester side, the opposition were tough. Let’s hope the Sharks’ bite wins through both that match and the Derbyshire re-match. The U14s and U18s both take on Doncaster who have been known to come up with a few surprises over the seasons, let’s hope they don’t do this time. Finally for the Juniors, the U16s have a less hectic weekend only playing one match against Northants, however Northants are sitting at the top of the league. So, a few matches that are hard to call, but all the best to our teams and followers.
Don’t forget the senior Sharks against Cheshire Jets tomorrow at EIS, normal tip off 7.30pm.
2nd November 2009
U14 report posted as well as next weekend's U18 preview.
1st November 2009
For anyone interested in journalistic theory, this weekend’s summary utilises Gatekeeping:
A good win for the U15s today in Newcastle, from what we hear the result of the day. Meanwhile the U14s start their season with a victory and the U18s hold off Cheshire Jets. The U16s also recorded a steady victory yesterday in Birmingham yesterday as reported.
