CVL - Central Venue League

CVLs (Central Venue League as they are known) are run on a monthly basis to provide an introduction to basketball competition for newcomers and novices to the sport. The City of Sheffield Basketball Club which incorporates Hatters for the girls and Saints for the boys use their older established players to help run and officiate the CVL and also provide role models for the younger players to aspire to.
 
The CVL is not really what the name suggests as we do not award trophies or highlight the winners, it is purely a level playing field for teams to come and have some friendly competition with other teams of similar age and abilities. It is important that the young players enjoy their first competitive experience therefore everyone involved, parent volunteers, club volunteers, coaches, officials etc work together to make it a positive and enjoyable environment.
 
The CVL runs three categories - Rookie teams (Y2-Y4) Sophomore Teams (Y4-Y6) and Junior Teams (Y7) although we use age groups as a benchmark it is also important that we use our common sense to place new teams to ensure that it is a worthwhile first outing for all involved including their opponents that day :-)
 
The cost is £15 per team if they bring a referee to help (minimum level 1 ref required) or £25.00 without. If a club enters more than one team into any of the categories the additional team is always charged at £15.00 regardless. There is also the Fastbreak Cafe which is run by the parents and provides a welcomed bacon butty and cup of tea or coffee on a Sunday morning!
 
CVLs - Sun 16 Oct, 13 Nov, 11 Dec, 22 Jan, 26 Feb, 25 Mar, 22 Apr, 20 May, 24 Jun and 15 Jul we then take a 2 month break ready for the new basketball season.
