Junior Teams - Part of the City of Sheffield Basketball Club (COSBC)
By the very nature of being a Junior Shark the majority of the players are still at school. We would like to use this page to celebrate the positive impact the Sharks are having at school as well as the positive impact the schools have on the Sharks.
If you are a school who knows of Sharks playing for you and want to share it, then please get in touch. Similarly, if you are a player and have achievements at school that you want a “shout-out” for let us know.

Sharks Silverdale Basketballers Go for Silverware in Two national Finals on the Same day - update 25th March 2009
Silverdale School’s basketball skills will be on display in two national finals on the same day on Saturday after U16 and U19 boys’ teams have out outplayed all their opponents to date in the English Schools Basketball Association’s Elite competitions. Headteacher Helen Storey will be wishing the teams well for Saturday as players, families and supporters from the school travel to Hemel Hempstead Sports Centre with the aim of bringing two pieces of important trophy silverware back to the city and their school. No less than the combined squad of twelve of Sheffield Junior Sharks players
Under the direction of Silverdale’s Mr Mark Allen, twelve players including three England internationals make up the two squads, all of them Sharks. They have seen-off significant opposition on their way to the finals. The U16s beat Shenfield, Angmering and St Margaret’s schools in the battle of the last eighteen. U19s beat St Columba’s, Doncaster’s Danum and Ellesmere Port catholic High Schools to win through from their age group’s last eighteen.
Six players are shared between the two Silverdale teams. As a consequence they will be hoping for enough of a rest to restore their energies between the two finals, especially as the U16’s final against an athletic Chadwell Heath will be a demanding game according to the scouts. The U19s face Greig City to make the finals a Sheffield versus London affair.
To avoid fixture conflicts Sheffield Junior Sharks have needed to arrange their U18 play-off game involving up to four of the Silverdale lads for the Sunday, when they play Cheshire Jets away from home.
The Silverdale players at U16 are: Jim Arundale, and Chris Barr, with John Stewart*, Jim Rose*, Atif Khan*, Devon van Oostrum*, Rob O’Neill, and Chris Hughes who also play-up for the U19s alongside Will Hall*, Danny Cox*, David Spilman and Tom Webster. * Sharks players

Silverdale Sharks Power School to National Final – update 4th March 2009
No less than six Sheffield Junior Sharks players played the major role in taking their U19 Silverdale School team to the ESBBA Division 1 National Schools Final at Hemel Hempstead, to be held on March 28th by beating Ellesmere Port Catholic High School. All scoring U16s Atif Khan, Jim Rose, John Stewart, Devon Van Oostrum, and U18s Danny Cox and Will Hall helped their team to a twenty point win (94:72). This was a margin that they had kept for most of the game. This victory follows the U16s winning their quarter final against Angmering by a single point only the day before. The semi-final is now to be arranged. If they win through, the U16s will face a second national final on March 28th against athletic Chadwell Heath. The date will prove something of a poser to Sharks as it is already scheduled for U18 first round playoffs.
Ellesmere Port had won their U16 semi final on Monday in the neutral Venue in St Albans with the Northwest team staying over to prepare for the Tuesday clash with Silverdale. Sheffield U16s returned to Sheffield overnight to collect their U18 team mates to travel back the following morning, so clocking up over 500 miles over the two days.
Willl Hall (27 points) lead the Silverdale U19 scorers followed by John Stewart (21 points) in a clash that saw the team facing familiar faces in the form of Manchester/Trafford’s John Gould, Josh McGinn, and Cheshire’s Neil Gillard and Sam Craig.
