14th January 2012, 12.00 pm

Saints 26 23 24 21 94
Falcons 17 13 8 14 52

As Eddy, Josh, Marcus, ConnorD and Kenneth took to the court everyone hoped that today’s match would set them up nicely for tomorrow’s Sureshot Cup quarter final. It was Kenneth who initially led the charge with a one from two and the two baskets to start the scoring off. Similar to last week the Saints were outscoring Falcons 2 to 1. Daniel and Marcus added to the score before Eddy grabbed 5 points with a basket and trey. With a pair of baskets from Josh and a further contribution from Kenneth at 20-8 up in the seventh minute all was well. However rather than killing off the game we saw the last 3 minutes be awarded to the opposition 9-6. The Saints defence seemed a bit out of sorts but Montell, David and George were all on court to add to the scoring

The defence became wiser in quarter two as the Saints continued their pressure. George made his mark on the game with two well taken free throws and another basket that was interspersed with a David trey. Kenneth and Daniel continued to make their mark before Marcus decided it was time he had an impact on the game. Ten points from him and the Saints had registered a 21-6 first 7 minute attack. No one had a problem with them taking the foot off the gas towards the end of the Q and a 19 point lead at half time was deserved.

Quarter three was a bit of a funny affair, not in an amusing way. The defence was now solid and it was Josh and ConnorD who decided to have their best quarters. The supporting cast were David (with his second trey of the game), George, Marcus and Kenneth. However at times we saw the best and worst of this team. Some of the attacking, defence and plays were top class, but then some of the missed lay ups, stray passes were frustrating to watch. However with the game in the bag it must be hard to keep up intensity.

We saw ConorDS start to get good court time in Q4 and again a mixed bag of a quarter, some great some not so great. Tyler got himself on the score sheet and George continued with his good scoring form. ConnorD carried on from Q3 and Daniel, Marcus and Kenneth were still there to support. A bit more coherency and maybe the 100 would have been reached but that was not an essential target. All players came through unscathed and fit and ready for the cup match tomorrow. Step up lads a semi final beckons.
