Successful weekend for Junior Saints U18’s

A busy weekend saw the Saints U18’s travel to Middlesborough on Saturday to play premier league newcomers Tees Valley Mohawks.

In a scrappy game against a very tall team, the Saints failed to dominate and build a convincing lead. Saints were clearly the more skilled and experienced team but un-forced errors allowed Tees Valley to remain competitive throughout. Fortunately Saints had enough in hand to eventually run out winners by 14 points 79 – 65

Following the long trip to the north east, on Sunday Saints were at home in the first round of the National Cup to local rivals Doncaster Eagles.

The game was competitive for the first 20 minutes as an outsized Doncaster team fought hard to compete against the more athletic Saints players. The half time score 31 – 17 reflected Saints failure to score consistently on the inside.

In the second half Saints capitalised on their superior quickness and aggression by playing solid half court defence and converting a number of fast break scores. The final score 79 – 43 was a fair reflection of the gap between the two teams
